About the Artist

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, educated at the San Francisco Art Institute, Japan, and an Indian ashram. Tom Gottsleben has lived in the Hudson River Valley since 1982. His work — as a sculptor and painter — creates for the viewer an experience of the harmony and beauty inherent in nature’s patterns and in the union of what appear to be opposites — linear and curved, masculine and feminine, dense and light, order and chaos, form and void, heaven and earth.

Gottsleben’s stone and crystal sculptures are the engagingly accessible result of his intellectual, poetic, and metaphysical explorations. His work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Neuberger Museum of Art (Purchase, NY) and Art Omni International (Ghent, NY) and in group shows at the annual Contemporary Sculpture at Chesterwood (Stockbridge, MA) and the New York Botanical Garden (Bronx, NY). His work is in numerous private collections and is represented by the Elena Zang Gallery, Shady (Woodstock), NY.
